Pit Bull Attacks and Dangerous Dogs

Pit bulls are not in the same category as rottweilers. Rotts are herding dogs, bred to drive and guard cattle like a German shepherd. A pit bull is a fighting dog, bred to "bait" bulls and bears.
A Pit bull locks his jaws when he bites and is unable to open them for some time. There is a tool sold to open pit bulls jaw when they lock, it is called a break-stick. I have never heard of a German shepherd or Rottweiler break-stick. Ban pit bulls. Simple

We are talking about bad owners with a vicious fighting dog. Not you playing with your mentally healthy pets.
Many terriers are determined biters. They never needed a break-stick in mass circulation until pit bulls strarted getting into the wrong hands. Their bite reflex is too strong when they are in "hunting mode".
When trained (or abused) by these bad owners, even just in "training-play" they are reinforcing a genetic breed instinct that is just too strong for the dog to overcome. In effect, the dog cannot let go. You are thinking of your well behaved pets. Forget that.
Have you ever seen a break-stick? Every responsible pit bull owner ( even those with happy, mentally healthy dogs) has one ready at all times. Do you? You think they sell those all over the place for fun sir?
A German shepherd might bite and bark or snarl, mostly noise. They were bread to do quick bites that grab and let go.
Pit bulls were bred to grab, hold, and shake their prey to death in a side to side motion like a shark.
Do you know that they were also bred for high pain tolerance? So that when horrified owners in tears tried to stab, chop and shoot their own dogs to stop them from mauling a neighbor - that's when they would discover they could not get the dog to let go.
Many times they had to pry the dogs mouth open after it had died. Is that a breed that should be in a neighborhood with children? With bad owners having flimsy fences?
A shepherd in the wrong owners hands creates a doctor visit. A pit bull in the wrong hands creates a funeral. It's a matter of risk.
Ban them. Now.
