Inellectual Property Framework
Good idea, but patents are only one form of intellectual property protection. There should be a public education campaign aimed at local entrepreneurs on which form of protection (patent, trademark, copyright, trade secret, etc) is best for them. A free consultation on these protections with an explanation of the filing process and strong (free) "boilerplate" legal documentation for the methods that don't require filing would be helpful with the new updated system. Something as simple as a non-disclosure for your partners and employees to sign, how many Jamaican entrepreneurs have easy access to that? Modernize the IP framework, educate the stakeholders, and fix the legal system. That's what the modern business explosion is built on in first world countries and the new tech giants like Israel. -RG In response to: Opposition calls for urgent review of Patent Act
